Stand Out

What is going on in the world! I am from a small town and moving to Toronto it is amazing to see how open people are here to being different. It is understandable, cities are more forward thinking and progressive than small towns in terms of, well, everything, but I find it so boring when I do go home and see another new house that looks just like the old new house which looks like the old new house before that. I think that designers, architects and builders should try and talk their clients into doing something that is more the clients style and not just repeat the same thing because the client is too scared to take a risk.

Isn't that the job of a good designer anyways? Being able to work with any style and try to push the boundaries as much as the client is comfortable with?

The house in the photo above is beautiful. It has some characteristics of a builders home like the stone and lighting. but the overall design style opposes that in being more modern making it stand alone from the rest. A beautiful modern style house with a few transitional materials.

POP!

Fashion Alert!!! You probably already know this but pops of color are HUGE this spring (as they have been the past few years I've noticed..) here is an image I saw online. I'm a sucker for blue, it's my favorite color, and this image is a great representation of how to throw pops of color in with your wardrobe.

Fusion

I LOVE THIS IMAGE!
The picture above is of a book store in Holland. The Dutch book retailers Selexyz, bought the 13th century cathedral and architects Merkx+Girod beautifully fused the gorgeous classic architecture with cool, sleek, modern interiors, which equals my most favourite type of design, fusion.

Check out the link below where i got the image from, there are more photos of the bookstore, they are really beautiful!

(KISS) Keep it Simple Stupid

After a brief, unexpected break I am slowly going to start posting again! Things have gotten crazy but are settling down now so I can once again share my findings with everyone!

This room caught my attention the second I looked at it. Everyone knows the saying "less is more" and this applies to almost anything in life. I for one think it is true for this photo. A simple color pallet of black, white brown, and subtle splashes of blue allow this space to feel chic and clean. The style is a perfect mix of rustic and mid-century modern with a few fabric patterns giving it a splash of retro.

This is a space I could see myself living in because it follows a rule that I hold dearly to my heart:
KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID!

Working With Space

This bathroom is beautiful! It works with the architecture of the house wasting no space whatsoever. I love the neutral pallet and the dark wooden beams. The skylights provide copious amounts of natural light which would be gorgeous to wake up to in the morning! Bravo!

Spring Colors!

Spring is starting to, well, SPRING! I was shopping today (no I didn't buy anything :( ) and I realized that I should probably get something bright and colorful in my wardrobe this spring! The color of the year is orange and that is quite evident by the number of orange jeans, pants and shorts I saw today. I've decided I will get a pair of orange or salmon colored shorts. This may seem easy but I have yet to find a pair that fit me quite right! The hunt is on!

Peek-A-Boo!

This is the cutest, coolest idea! work from home? introducing office in a box! take the office wherever you go! I can't remember where I saw this, but it is a great idea for those who live in small spaces where every inch counts. Having a dinner party? fold away your office!

I don't have the link to where i got this, but consider this my disclaimer that this is not my idea, nor my photo.
